Raised by Jamaican Roots. Shaped by the American Dream.
Dr. Patti Mills was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and migrated to the United States in June 1979 — a young woman with a dream, a prayer, and very little else. Over the next four decades, she would become an educator, a doctor of education, a realtor, a mother, and an author.
She has called Florida home for most of her American life — a place where she planted roots, raised a family, built a career, and eventually found the words to tell her story.
The Long Road to Dr. Mills
Dr. Mills earned four academic degrees, including her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees from Nova Southeastern University — and not without a fight. From navigating difficult professors to powering through a dissertation that others tried to derail, she earned every letter of that title.
Her graduate journey mirrors the very message she writes about: ambition, determination, confidence, faith, strength, and God.
23 Years. One Classroom. Countless Lives.
Dr. Mills spent 23 years as a dedicated educator in Florida's inner-city schools. She served as a classroom teacher, Team Leader, and Literacy Coach. She mentored students in the SARP (Students at Risk Programme), stayed late without extra pay, and gave 150% every single day.
Her students made tremendous learning gains — not because the system supported her, but because she refused to let them fail. In the face of false allegations, vendettas, and institutional silence, she kept showing up.
Mother. Wife. Fighter. Author.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Mills is the proud mother of three remarkable children: Natalia, an educator; Barrington, a law enforcement officer; and Marcilyn, a pharmacist. She is married and currently resides in Florida.
In her next chapter, she has added realtor and author to a life already full of purpose. Her story is not over — it has barely begun.
